The 30th anniversary issue of the journal/collection of scientific articles “China in World and Regional Politics. History and Modernity”, published for 30 years by the Institute of China and Contemporary Asia of the Russian Academy of Sciences (until 2022 — the Institute of Far Eastern Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences), is devoted to examining a number of topical issues, the significance of which has been growing in recent years.
The issue includes works on the problems of US-Chinese relations during both terms of D. Trump’s presidency, China's dialogue with some EU countries in the context of the “Belt and Road” initiative, and articles on the role of the Arctic region in China's modern international course. Particular attention is paid to the issue of China’s presidency of the SCO-2025 in the light of the development prospects of this organization, as well as to China’vs approach to the global governance system. Also worthy of attention are the authors’ views on China as a superpower, on relations between China and the DPRK in the light of strengthening relations between Moscow and Pyongyang, on culture as a resource for China’s foreign policy. Methodologically valuable information is contained in the work on the Russian historiography of China’s foreign policy in the era of Xi Jinping.
This year’s issue opens a new section — “China and International Security”, the articles of which examine China’s activities in the security sphere, including the European, Southeast Asian and African directions. The views of the Chinese leadership on the dialogue between China and Germany in the security sphere, the role of the Chinese Armed Forces in ensuring national security “in the new era” are also analyzed.
The section on China’s foreign economic policy is extensive and informative. It covers issues of Russian-Chinese and Chinese-Central Asian economic cooperation, trade and tariff wars between the US and China, China’s political and economic relations with the EU and Pakistan, as well as special issues of the Chinese economy that are of international importance.
The section on the history of Russian-Chinese relations includes articles on rare, interesting and little-studied topics relating to the period of World War II and the 1920s.
