The 29th issue of the journal/collection of scientific articles “China in World and Regional Politics. History and Modernity”, published for almost 30 years by the Institute of Far East/Institute of China and Modern Asia of the Russian Academy of Sciences, continues to examine current issues of China’s international policy, Russian-Chinese relations, the foreign economic course of modern China and the history of Russian-Chinese relations.

This year’s edition includes a new section – In memoriam, dedicated to the 90th anniversary of the outstanding scientist and statesman, Academician M.L. Titarenko.

The book’s distinctive feature is its in-depth analysis of significant areas of Russian-Chinese partnership, including: cooperation in the field of security in Eastern Eurasia, the positions of the two countries on the issue of “innocent passage” in global shipping, China’s new strategic initiatives to integrate the Greater Central Asian space, and the role of friendship societies in humanitarian relations.

A number of articles are devoted, among other things, to the peculiarities of modern Chinese diplomacy, the periodization of China’s foreign policy, and its initiatives in the field of global governance.
Another key topic was the current evolution of the Belt and Road Initiative, including its successes in ASEAN countries (in 2021–2023). New topics included the issue of creating an Asian Monetary Fund and China’s possible role in this..

A whole series of works is devoted to the country directions of Chinese foreign policy, in particular dialogue with the United States, the Transcaucasian republics, Uzbekistan, Afghanistan, and relations in the triangles of the United States-China-South Korea and Pakistan-China-USA.

The economic section of the issue is noteworthy, examining China’s cooperation in the field of transport with the Middle East, China’s economic influence in South Asia, the impact of the Red Sea crisis on China, and Russian-Chinese cross-border trade. The issue also contains an article on China’s environmental strategy and a work on a rare topic from the history of Russian-Chinese relations.
